H+H Software GmbH has just announced a new major release of probably the world’s most widely used CD/DVD emulator, Virtual CD, bringing it to Version 10. This version adds support for emulation of Blu-ray and HD DVD drives, writers and virtual media, allowing users to access Blu-ray and HD DVD media even on PCs not equipped with Blu-ray or HD DVD drives. Windows 7 is now supported and H+H Software has acquired Windows 7 certification from Microsoft.
The Virtual CD user interface has been completely redesigned from its previous version 9 released about 2 years ago and is now based on the Ribbons introduced in Microsoft Office 2007. Like the new Office Ribbons, this user interface provides direct access to all the Virtual CD functions. The search, filter, grouping and sorting features have also been updated to make it easier to find and organise existing disc images.

Virtual CD 10 includes basic disc burning functions to create and edit CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray images of user chosen data as well as burn virtual media to physical media. This version also adds a new sound file mode for easier ripping and conversion of audio files. Like Version 9, it is also possible to directly insert virtual media into physical drives, which is useful where spare drive letters are limited (e.g. server) or a software program expects a disc to be present in a specific physical drive.
Virtual CD provides high compression to reduce the size of the disc images, making it useful for users who travel with netbooks that don’t have an optical drive or who have a laptop with an SSD and want to minimise usage of its limited capacity.
Virtual CD 10 is set to launch on 8th October 2009 and will be available with a reduced price of €29.95 for the full version or €14.95 for an upgrade. A 5-user license is €59.95 for private use or €109.90 for use in a business. A fully functional demo can be downloaded from their website.
