Comcast launches 100th VOD day and date with DVDComcast will usher in its 100th video-on-demand movie launched day and date with the DVD with Dec. 22 release (500) Days of Summer.

Also being offered on day-and-date VOD in December are All About Steve on Dec. 22, as well as Jennifer’s Body, A Perfect Getaway and 9 on Dec. 29. Others released earlier this month in this fashion were Terminator Salvation on Dec. 1, Julie & Julia on Dec. 8 and Taking Woodstock on Dec. 15.

This full slate of December day-and-date VOD titles follows a record-breaking November that had seven day-and-date VOD movies. Nearly all the studios are providing such simultaneous releases, including Warner Home Video, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, Universal Studios Home Entertainment, Summit Home Entertainment, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and MGM Home Entertainment.

“More than 100 times this year, there was no faster way to watch a new release movie at home than with Comcast On Demand,” said Derek Harrar, senior VP/general manager of video and entertainment services for Comcast. “We pioneered day and date, so we’re thrilled that our studio partners were able to nearly triple our day-and-date movie offerings in favor of our customers.”

However, there has been lag time between the DVD and VOD launch for many of the largest films in 2009. There were about week-long windows for December releases Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and The Hangover. Additionally, November DVD releases Star Trek and Up became available on VOD in December.
