The Warner Archive Collection opens up the company vaults and rings in the New Year with a bang and a slew of highly sought after titles making their long-awaited DVD debut as part of our January line-up.

Whether your tastes lean to vintage silent screen epics, mega-star TV mini-series, or anything in between, there's sure to be something for everyone in this month's roster!

Since inception, the Warner Archive Collection team has welcomed consumer input. We wanted to know what films you wanted to see released, and your voices have been heard! These nine films were among the most frequently requested features by YOU...our customers, and now they can be added to your DVD library.

AN AMERICAN ROMANCE –Director King Vidor's 1944 epic Technicolor chronicle of an immigrant family's rise to success in America.

CRY "HAVOC" –Margaret Sullavan and Ann Sothern head an all-star cast as Army nurses in a Bataan bomb shelter during WWII.

FIFTH AVENUE GIRL –Ginger Rogers shines in this witty lampoon of upper-class socialites, directed by Gregory La Cava.

IT'S A WONDERFUL WORLD –As screwball a comedy as anyone could ask for, this breezy delight stars James Stewart as a fugitive detective who kidnaps wacky Claudette Colbert while trying to clear his name....!

KISMET–Ronald Colman and Marlene Dietrich star in William Dieterle's beguiling 1944 Technicolor adaptation of the famed Arabian Nights fantasy.

THEY MET IN BOMBAY –This 1941 romp set in the orient finds Clark Gable as a cunning jewel thief who gets more than he bargained for when he falls in love with his equally skilled rival, played with gusto by Rosalind Russell.

THE WHITE CLIFFS OF DOVER –Irene Dunne stars in poignant story of an American woman's marriage to an English nobleman, and her struggle to keep her family together during two world wars, which also features an early performance from an eleven year-old Elizabeth Taylor.

SILENT CLASSICS!
Eight more rarities from the silent era make their debut this month from the Warner Archive Collection, including:

CAPTAIN SALVATION (1927) Lars Hanson (The Wind) stars as a divinity student who risks everything when he tries to save a fallen woman (Marceline Day) from the lure of her sinful past.

THE FLYING FLEET (1929) Ramon Novarro stars as a heroic sailor who braves hazardous sea journey in order to reunite with beloved (Anita Page).

LA BOHEME (1926) Lillian Gish and John Gilbert star as the tragic lovers in King Vidor's cinematic adaptation of the famous story which also served as the basis for the immortal Puccini opera.

LADY OF THE NIGHT (1925) Norma Shearer plays dual roles in this melodrama about two very different women both in love with the same man...

THE PAGAN (1929) Ramon Novarro's final silent film (released with synchronized music score) was this box-office smash–a torrid melodrama of love and intrigue set against the backdrop of the tropics.

TIDE OF EMPIRE (1929) Renee Adoree stars in this western melodrama set during the 1848 California gold rush, under the spirited direction of Allan Dwan.

WHITE SHADOWS IN THE SOUTH SEAS (1928) Filmed on location in Tahiti, this exotic melodrama was the first MGM film to be released with a synchronized musical soundtrack.

WILD ORANGES (1924) King Vidor directed this tender story of love and renewal starring Virginia Valli and Frank Mayo.

TV MOVIES!
You asked for more, and we deliver. More memorable made-for-television favorites have been pulled from the Warner Bros. vault shelves to make their DVD debut this month including:

ANGEL DUSTED–Jean Stapleton is a mother trying to save her son (played by Stapleton's actual son John Putch) from the perils of PCP addiction.

THE BAD SEED –The 1985 TV remake of Maxwell Anderson's chillingly famous play & film, with Blair Brown taking on the role of the panicked mother coming to the realization of her daughter's true and evil nature.

THE DEADLY TOWER –Kurt Russell holds a city hostage as a sniper perched with a gun atop a college campus tower in 1970s Texas.

DESPERATE LIVES –Helen Hunt is among a group of Valley kids hooked on drugs in this 1982 classic TV opus, also starring Diana Scarwid (Mommie Dearest).

DIVORCE WARS–Tom Selleck and Jane Curtin are exceptional in this frank look at the corrosive effects divorce has on the lives of a typical American family.

DYING ROOM ONLY–Cloris Leachman is the terrorized wife seeking her missing husband at an Arizona roadside motel in this audience favorite, co-starring Ned Beatty and Ross Martin.

HOSTAGE FLIGHT –Controversial 1985 story of a hijacked airliner, and the passengers who take action and revenge against their captors.

A KILLER IN THE FAMILY–Robert Mitchum stars as an ex-con whose sons become unwilling accomplices to their father's newest crime spree in this harrowing drama.

THE POSSESSED –A 1977 horror tale of demonic powers co-starring James Farentino and Harrison Ford.

OPERATION HEARTBEAT –The 2 hour made for TV drama which served as the pilot for the long-running favorite MEDICAL CENTER. Portraying the role of tough but tender Dr. Joe Gannon is Richard Bradford (the role played in the ultimate series by Chad Everett) who co-stars here with James Daly, Kim Stanley, and (in one of his last roles) Edward G. Robinson.

SPECIAL BULLETIN –Winner of 4 Emmy Awards, this is the ground-breaking drama of a Television reporter and news cameraman who are held hostage, with the story presented as a 'simulated' actual news broadcast. Ed Flanders and Kathryn Walker star in this landmark 1983 made-for-television production, directed by Edward Zwick and written by Marshall Herskovitz.

TV MINI-SERIES
THE AWAKENING LAND –Elizabeth Montgomery gives an outstanding performance in this critically acclaimed, sprawling three-part epic portrayal of a pioneer woman's life over several decades during the earliest days of U.S. history. (3 discs)

BLOOD AND ORCHIDS –Sean Young, Kris Kristofferson and Jane Alexander star in this adaptation of Norman Katkov's best-selling novel exploring the bigotry and corruption that underscores a rape trial in 1930's Hawaii. (2 discs)

A DEATH IN CALIFORNIA –Cheryl Ladd and Sam Elliot star in this memorable saga of incredible-but-true story (based on actual events) of psychopathic obsession leading to murder. (2 discs)

I KNOW MY FIRST NAME IS STEVEN–Based on a true story; Corin Nemic portrays a teenager reunited with his family after having been kidnapped by a child predator a decade earlier.... (2 discs)

LACE I (2 DISC) and LACE II (2 DISC)–The 1984 mini series and its 1985 sequel (based on the best-selling novel by Shirley Conran) are over-the-top, all-star 1980s soap opera glitz favorites, sporting an impressive cast of fine talents including Phoebe Cates, Brooke Adams and Bess Armstrong.

SCRUPLES (3 DISCS)–Lindsay Wagner stars in this memorable adaptation of Judith Krantz' mega best-selling novel chronicling the price of fame and fortune in the lives of three ambitious people.

BUT WAIT...THERE'S MORE!!!! Also available this month, two pre-code Warner Bros. delights starring Warren William and Marian Marsh BEAUTY AND THE BOSS (co-starring David Manners) and UNDER EIGHTEEN (co-starring Anita Page); SPLIT SECOND, the nifty 1953 film noir starring Alexis Smith and Stephen McNally, and directed by Dick Powell, and Marilyn Miller re-creates her famous stage performance as the star of the 1930 WB musical SUNNY , featuring the music of Jerome Kern.
