Sony (SNE) Pictures Entertainment is cutting 450 jobs, more than 6.5% of its staff, mostly in its home entertainment and IT divisions in the U.S., the L.A. Times reports. The studio is also eliminating about 100 open positions.In March, the studio had cut 250 jobs and canceled 100 open positions.
The company blamed the cuts on reduced consumer purchases of DVDs. The Times notes that industry-wide, DVD and Blu-Ray sales were down more than 13% in the U.S. in 2009.
