| | | | At the end of March 2009 the Warner Archive Collection opened its virtual doors peddling a brand-new concept: What if we made Warner Bros. extensive back catalog available to the fans who want it most, one disc at a time? What started with 150 feature films has grown to over 500 features, along with collections of shorts, made-for-TV movies, mini-series, animated shows, and full TV seasons. In the coming year, not only is the Archive Collection going to release more of the stuff you've been asking for, but also lost classics, cinematic oddities, and other content on DVD for the very first time. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for more big announcements! | | | |

 | | | | MARCH RELEASE SPOTLIGHT
WARNER BROS. SHORTS RIPLEY'S BELIEVE IT OR NOT! began life as a newspaper panel by Robert L. Ripley in 1918 titled CHAMPS AND CHUMPS. Originally dealing with only sports feats, the panel was soon broadened to include other increasingly bizarre topics and adopted its familiar name. Ripley later hosted a series of two dozen BELIEVE IT OR NOT! theatrical short films from 1930 through 1932 for Warner Bros' Vitaphone. Now collected on DVD for the first time, this 2-DVD set features 24 of these rarely-seen and amazing non-fiction shorts, which predated the trend of "reality television" by almost 70 years! | |
ART CINEMA Box office superstar Johnny Depp teams with screen legends Jerry Lewis and Faye Dunaway in ARIZONA DREAM, a gem from noted director Emir Kusturica. The quirky 1993 film also features fine performances by indie film favorites Vincent Gallo, Paulina Porizkova, Lily Taylor and music by acclaimed composer Gorin Bregovic and rock icon Iggy Pop, as well as a tune by the legendary Sherman Brothers! This unusual feature epitomizes the vast diversity and prestige of the Warner Archive Collection.
Famed artist Pablo Picasso has inspired countless filmmakers over the years. This month, the Warner Archive Collection presents two of these features. First up, Academy Award® winner for Best Actor, Anthony Hopkins, gives a full-throttle performance as the acclaimed artist in the Merchant-Ivory production of SURVIVING PICASSO, an intimate, insightful tale of genius, beauty and obsession. Then, Albert Finney and Yvette Mimieux co-star in PICASSO SUMMER, a stylish and lively film that serves as both a sun-drenched travelogue of 1960s Europe and an artist's showcase featuring lively animated sequences of Picasso's work. A truly stunning double double! | | ALSO NEW THIS MONTH: GIRLFRIENDS 1977 A MAN AND A WOMAN: 20 YEARS LATER 1986 MEETING VENUS 1991 A NIGHT FULL OF RAIN 1977 THE PRIEST'S WIFE 1971

 | | | RECENT FAN QUESTION FROM OUR FACEBOOK PAGE
Dylan (via Facebook) asks: Any plans to release Frank Perry's 1969 film Last Summer, or Michael Apted's 1979 film Agatha? Both of these are critically well-regarded and have a great many fans. It would be a pleasure to see these enter the Archive.
Warner Archive Collection replies: LAST SUMMER is one of the most highly requested titles in our vast library, and we planned to make it available last year when we launched the Warner Archive Collection. When we were unable to secure a good quality master which retained the film's original theatrical aspect ratio, the release was postponed. Fortunately, the issue is resolved and we look forward to announcing its DVD premiere later this year.
We get many questions about our upcoming releases, and we listen! Unfortunately, we may not be able to answer you all directly for a number of reasons, therefore we are hesitant to announce upcoming films until all plans are firmly in place. Nonetheless, we really appreciate your continued input and are committed to bringing the width and breadth of the company's unparalleled film library to your own DVD shelf.
