TDK develops 1TB prototype optical disc

"TDK develops 1TB prototype optical disc | HdBluDVD.Com - More HD-DVD, Blu-Ray, DVD Info"

Last week at CEATEC Japan 2010 TDK tried but couldn't steal the show by displaying the mother of all optical discs, a prototype which can store up to 1024GB or 1TB of data on its 32 (16 per side) layers, each holding 32GB.

The record-breaking disc is more than twice as thick as a regular Blu-ray at 260μm but it uses the same materials and supports the same beam aperture as HD-DVD's killer. TDK is marketing the 1TB disc as a great medium for data backup but has yet to receive orders for it so don't expect to see anything like it too soon.
