What to look for in a DVD PlayerA DVD Player is an integral part of your home entertainment system. There are several different DVD players around from portable DVDs to ones with integrated Freeview.

A DVD Players should be easy to use with clear controls and an easy to use remote control. It should be a sturdy machine and well made and not flimsy. You need to check the connectors to make sure they are compatible with the rest of your equipment. Most DVD players have SCART sockets but they may have component video or S-video which are great for HD TV connections. Some DVD players offer different widescreen options.

You will need to check the players Zone. The UK is Zone 2. You also need to check what formats the player is compatible with, you may want to play DVD+R/RW and you need to check that the machine will play these as not all players will.

Some DVD players will have computer data access which means they can read information created on your computer and saved to disc such as your photo albums.

The DVD player may be of HD quality, combined with a HD ready TV you can watch HD films to superb quality, and if combined with Home Cinema and Dolby Surround Sound it could be like being at the cinema.

Some models can play back from MP3 and MP4 players so that you can view your videos or photos.

There is a vast range of DVD Players from the very basic ones at under £50 to top of the range Blu-ray HD DVD Players that give you the full cinema experience at anything up to £500.

You can get a large range of portable DVD Players that you can take anywhere, some even fit into cars to entertain your children on the move. Some have tuners and built in aerials so that you can take TV with you too.
